No Respite From Heat: Srinagar Hits 33.3°C

(MENAFN- Kashmir Observer) Srinagar :A severe heatwave has gripped the Kashmir Valley, pushing temperatures well above seasonal norms and prompting health advisories across the region. Srinagar recorded a scorching 33.3°C on Sunday-5.3°C above the average for this time of year.

According to Kashmir Weather, Qazigund in south Kashmir was the hottest location, registering 33.6°C-an alarming 6.8°C above normal. Pahalgam, typically known for its cool summer weather, recorded 28.7°C-4.8°C higher than usual. Other notable highs included Kupwara at 32.5°C, Kokernag at 30.8°C, and even hill station Gulmarg, which recorded 23.0°C-4.3°C above average.

“This is an intense and widespread heat spell,” said weather expert Faizan Arif.“Such anomalies are becoming more frequent in Kashmir's summer patterns, and people should take necessary precautions.”

In the Jammu region, temperatures also soared. Jammu city recorded a sweltering 44.3°C-4.7°C above normal-while Katra hit 40.2°C. Batote, Banihal, and Bhaderwah registered 33.6°C, 32.8°C, and 33.0°C respectively. The high-altitude desert of Ladakh, too, felt the heat, with Leh and Kargil logging unseasonal highs of 26.9°C and 27.9°C.

Health officials have advised the public to stay indoors during peak hours, remain hydrated, and avoid outdoor exertion. Special caution has been urged for children, the elderly, and outdoor workers.

With no immediate respite forecast, the local administration is expected to issue further advisories if the high temperatures persist in the coming days.
