Trump cuts short G7 summit due to escalation in Middle East
(MENAFN) US President Donald Trump is cutting short his visit to the G7 summit in Canada, citing the escalating conflict between Israel and Iran as the reason for his early departure, the White House announced Monday.
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt stated on X that Trump had “a great day at the G7,” highlighting a newly signed trade agreement with UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer. “Much was accomplished, but because of what’s going on in the Middle East, President Trump will be leaving tonight after dinner with Heads of State,” she said.
Speaking to reporters, Trump confirmed the change in plans: “I have to be back early for obvious reasons. I wish I could stay for tomorrow, but they understand this. This is big stuff.”
According to reports, Trump has asked the National Security Council to prepare for high-level discussions in the White House situation room upon his return.
Earlier, Trump issued a strong warning on his Truth Social account, urging civilians to evacuate Tehran “immediately” due to the worsening conflict. He reiterated his long-held position on Iran’s nuclear program: “Iran should have signed the ‘deal’ I told them to sign. What a shame, and waste of human life. Simply stated, IRAN CAN NOT HAVE A NUCLEAR WEAPON. I said it over and over again!”
