Axiom-4 mission gets postponed due to technical issue
(MENAFN) The Axiom-4 mission, scheduled to ferry four astronauts—including one from India—to the International Space Station (ISS), has been delayed again due to a technical issue, according to the Indian space agency and SpaceX.
V. Narayanan, chairman of the Indian space agency, explained that during final preparations for the Falcon 9 launch vehicle, “seven second of hot test was carried out on the launch pad,” which revealed a leakage of liquid oxygen (LOX) in the propulsion bay.
“Based on the discussion on this topic by ISRO team with the experts of Axiom and SpaceX it has been decided to correct the leak and carry out necessary validation test before clearing for the launch. Hence the launch of Axiom 04 slated for June 11 is postponed.”
SpaceX also announced it is “standing down” from the planned Falcon 9 launch at NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida to provide additional time for its teams to repair the LOX leak discovered during booster inspections.
“Once complete – and pending range availability – we will share a new launch date,” the company stated.
The mission’s crew is set to carry out over 60 scientific experiments and demonstrations spanning human research, Earth observation, as well as life, biological, and material sciences.
